Thorpe Park - Chertsey
Investigation Date: 19 November 2010
Thorpe Park is built on what used to be a quarry owned by Ready Mix Concrete. In the early 1970's after the quarry had been closed, Ready Mix Concrete decided that they would fill in the site and turn it into a leisure park. However, it turned out that filling it in would take about 20 years to do and local residents would object to the dumping of earth near them for the next 20 years not to mention the firm would go bust in the process. So instead they filled it in with water to make Thorpe Park an island. The park was opened in 1979 by Louis Mountbatten.
Most of the people who visit this great park never give a thought to what went on before the park was built.
Here was a chance to spend the night and take part in a rare Paranormal Event, what goes on after the gates are shut and the people have gone, and having heard the reports from the staff and managerment we were more than happy to investigate the park.

There were three main areas that were covered, but we did have the opportunity to visit other places within the park if time allowed. SouthWest London Paranormal would like to thank all the staff from Thorpe Park for their time and excellent knowledge that they provided. The group thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were glad to hear that the staff did too.
The group split into three separate teams in order to cover this vast area and to ensure that all were able to experience and investigate the park. The only people in Thorpe Park that night were the investigation group and a few Thorpe Park employee's who accompained each team for health and safety reason and to ensure the teams did not get lost. The three teams were never in the vicinity of one another during investigation, but were spread out throughout the park. All noises, taps and shadows that were experience were unexplained and not throught the results of other teams being close by.

TEAM 1 INVESTIGATION
The Saw
Upon arrival the team had a good look around. Throughout the investigation in this area, they did hear a number of sounds which could not be explained. Some were put down to the metal that was around and also possibly the machinery. The staff who accompanied the team assured them that all machinery would be switch off.
Jim begain to call out to the spirits. The team felt there was a response, but they could hear various noises around them and it was unclear if the spirits responded directly to the questions put.
Dawn pointed along the tracks and believed she was able to see a light within the pitch black tunnel, some of the group agreed with her that a light was appearing and disappearing sporadically. Many thought that they could make out someone near the control room, as there were lots of shadows which were unexplainable.
A seance was held with Jim calling out. Andy thought he saw a light along the other end of the track and the Thorpe Park staff confirmed that there was no one else in the park which would be near this area. Jim asked the spirits to make some sort of a noise, after a while several taps were heard, but it was felt that these were not in response to the questions as it was several minutes after. Andy then heard footsteps coming from the staircase. Carl's EMF meter also kept spiking, yet there was no power around us. Both of them decided to go to the staircase and investigate further.
Dowsing rods were tried in order to establish some communication with the spirits, but no movement was had. Mandy, who was operating the camcorder informed the group that the battery had died - this was fully charged before the start. Many of the group felt that they were being watched, tappings were heard again and Andy confirmed more footsteps from the staircase. It was a cold night, but there were times that the temperature dropped further before returning to the normal coldness, and drafts could also be felt on people's faces.
Jim believed there was a spirit on the stairs and took a photo. (Please check photo's below) This later revealed what looked like someone there. Sue heard a high pitched sound, which could not be explained. Andy began to smell what appeared to be a medical odour, others in the team agreed they could also smell this. Jim felt that the spirit that was around was not from our time period, but was here way before it was a theme park.
Jim said he was being told that we all needed to be careful "there is more here then we know". Andy asked the spirits to show themselves as the team were not scared. He then called out for the spirits to push one of them, but there was no response. Dawn pointed out that she could see something within the control room area.
Emma suddenly ran from where she was standing towards the exit. She informed the group that something whispered in her ear. At the same time Andy said he heard someone downstairs. Immediately following this a huge light moved across the wall. The group investigated the cause of either people's touches or headlights from a car, but it was confirmed that no vehicles were within the vicinity and or people outside.

The team around the board stopped for a moment, because they thought they heard a whisper.
Question: "Can you make another sound please?" No answer
Question: "Can you give us the first initial of your first name?" Answer: "F"
Question: "Can you please confirm it was the letter F?" Answer: "Yes"
Question: "Can you give us the next letter of your first name?" Answer: "T"
Question: "Can you give us the third letter of you name?" The glass then moved around the board and made no sense.
Question: "Can you tell us when you passed over, was it the 19 hundreds?" Answer: "1913"
Question: "Did you die here?" Answer: "Yes"
Question: "Did you die of natural causes?" Answer: "No"
Question: "Did someone take your life?" Answer: "Yes"
Dawn then asked if she was a nun and the reply was "Yes"
Question: "Are you here to help others?" Answer: "No"
Question: "Are you grounded here?" Answer: "Yes"
At this point she left the board. After a short discussion amongst the team, they reconvened with the board and the nun returned.
Andy asked her to move the glass to where she was standing. But the glass did not move.
Question: "Are you on your own?" Answer: "No"
Question: "How many are there?" Answer: "5"
Question: "Are you all together?" Answer: "Yes"
Question: "Can you spell your name again?" No reply
Sue remarked that for a nun to have come through it must mean she went to purgatory, something must have happen. Jim agreed. Andy asked her to confrm she was a sister of the church. Answer: "Yes"
Question: "Did you do something wrong and that's why you are still here?" Answer: "Yes"
Question: "Did you have a sexual relationship with a monk?" Answer: "Yes"
Question: "Would you like to go into the light and be with loved one?" Answer: "No"
Question: "Can you see all of us?" Answer: "Yes"
Nothing much came from the board after this, therefore the team decided to move on. A visit to the projection room was done, but nothing happened other than a private message that Jim passed on to a member of the Thorpe Park staff.
X No Way Out
On entering the building and standing quietly in a circle, many of the team commented on the feeling of being watched. Jim could feel the presence of two spirits within the area. The first, was a young girl which he saw in a lot of pain and had injuries to her head. The second was a male, Jim wanted to look for tools, and he had the feeling that the spirit had been an engineer.
Jim was drawn to some stairs and the top landing above it. He ventured up the stairs with the majority of the team. A point to remember here is that the safety chain was not on. At the top landing Jim began to feel funny and very unsure, he backed away into a corner. He felt like he had fallen and wanted to fall again. Some team members escorted him down to the next landing where he was fine again. A few unusual sounds could be heard, but it was felt amongst the team that most of it was down to the vast amount of metal structures within the building.
Hell's Gate
The team made their way through the maze to the main room at the end of the long tunnel. They stood in a circle around what looked like a sacrifice table (a prop made by Thorpe Park) and began a seance. Jim called out several times, but felt that he no longer wanted to stay in this room. There was an uneasy feeling about the place and he asked if they could leave the area.
Outside Area (Area where new rides are being built)
Jim stopped outside and said he could feel a presence. He explained that he felt the building work currently being done was disturbing something. If they were to continue to dig further down they would uncover some remains, of what would have been an old settlement dating back hundreds of years. There was an unhappy feeling here, and a sense that someone wanted us to move away.
Monks Walk and Colossus
The team walked along Monks Walk which was situated outside. There was a feeling of being watched and a few odd noises, but this could have been put down to animals, the weather and the darkness, although the night sky did have a wonderful almost full moon to light the way.
Jim was beginning to have an uneasy feeling. He said we were not welcome here, this was not the only place he had felt this, again it was the feeling of disturbing something, or someone?
The team camera did catch several strange images. It could have been the weather, but multiple shots were taken consecutively and the images did not appear in all the photos.
There were also a number of sounds picked up by the team, at one point it sounded like footsteps coming up from behind then.
When arriving at the Colossus ride there was a feeling of a spirit person being around, but after many attempts to contact them with little success the vigil ended.
Jim also felt there were soldiers marching, very old style uniform perhaps Roundheads or Romans.
Outer Building (Rubbish & Cleaning Area)
This particular area and building once held the Witches Haunted House ride. The Thorpe Park staff asked if the team could have a look around although it was not initially on the schedule. The only thing Jim was able to pick up on was a fire in the area at some time. This was later confirmed by the staff who informed the group that the old building had been burnt down.
The Dome/Operation & Office Room
As soon as the team entered this area Jim picked up on a lady who was there in the room. He informed the group that she was always very busy, rushing here and there and would be looking over their shoulders when the staff were working. He was drawn to one of the offices and asked the present staff if it would have been hers. He also wanted to tidy up papers and there was something about flowers.
The team formed a circle and called out to any spirits, but nothing came through.
After the vigil the staff members that were present on the vigil, did confirm that a female member of staff who was in charge had passed away. She was always rushing around and did have a habit of looking over people's shoulders. There was also a connection to flowers with her. Jim did get the office wrong though - it was the one next to it that had belonged to her.

TEAM 2 - INVESTIGATION
Monks Walk
When walking down Monks Walk, Charlie could smell something sweet resembling sherbet. Other team members could also smell something strange. One of the team did remark that it could be the smell from the nearby pine trees.
Tracie was picking up on a young guy who was part of a group that were following the team around. This spirit group would like to make people jump and this was their play ground. The name Daniel came through to Tracie as the young guy's name. She pointed out that they appeared harmless, just typical twenty year olds.
Nemesis
Mac called out for any spirits to come forward. Tracie picked up on a guy who was connected to the ride. He was pacing back and forth. She felt he was watching someone who either works on the ride now, or use to work on the ride. The team then began to hear noises, but were unsure what was causing them.
The dowsing rods were then used.
Question: "Is there spirit people here?" No movement from the rods, but a noise was heard again by a team member.
Question: "Is there a man who walks around here and watches people?" No movement from the rods.
Question: "Did you work here?" Still no movement
Question: "Are you protective towards this ride?" No movement
Tracie was then getting through the words "pay attention". She asked out "pay attention to what, the ride or the people who work it?" But still no movement from the rods and no noises heard in response.
4D Theatre
The group began to assemble around the ouija board and started asking out for any spirits to come forward and to move the glass. After a while the glass began to move around the board.
Question: "Are you mucking about with us?" Answer: "No"
Question: "How old are you?" No reply
Question: "Does Danny or any other guys want to come through and speak with us?" No answer
Question: "Can you spell your name for us?" Answer: "JEN"
As this was a personal message the team moved on. It was identified that this spirit had worked at Loggers Leap, but the message was very unclear. The glass moved to different letters and numbers, but nothing that made any sense.
The Saw
Upon entering the building the team called out for any spirits, but there was no response. Mac tapped on the steel bars asking the spirits to copy, but again no response was heard. Tracie heard a noise, but nothing further was heard after that. After a while it was declared that no activity was forthcoming, so the team ended the vigil.
Outside The Saw Ride
Tracie picked up again on the same group of guys that were at Monks Walk. She was also picking up on a not so very nice vibe - this particular person appeared not to be pleasant and not very sociable. She also felt that someone could have been raped by him or by his group. She then got a name Cedrick. This was someone who was completely different to the others. Tracie walked to where she believed he had been, this was a time before the park existed around 1959. As the group was walking, Tracie said that she could hear screaming.
Loggers Leap
Within this area Tracie said she was feeling very sick, which was a feeling of depression. The group could find no further activity in this area and decided to end the vigil.
Monks Walk
When walking down Monks Walk, Charlie could smell something sweet resembling sherbet. Other team members could also smell something strange. One of the team did remark that it could be the smell from the nearby pine trees.
Tracie was picking up on a young guy who was part of a group that were following the team around. This spirit group would like to make people jump and this was their play ground. The name Daniel came through to Tracie as the young guy's name. She pointed out that they appeared harmless, just typical twenty year olds.
Nemesis
Mac called out for any spirits to come forward. Tracie picked up on a guy who was connected to the ride. He was pacing back and forth. She felt he was watching someone who either works on the ride now, or use to work on the ride. The team then began to hear noises, but were unsure what was causing them.
The dowsing rods were then used.
Question: "Is there spirit people here?" No movement from the rods, but a noise was heard again by a team member.
Question: "Is there a man who walks around here and watches people?" No movement from the rods.
Question: "Did you work here?" Still no movement
Question: "Are you protective towards this ride?" No movement
Tracie was then getting through the words "pay attention". She asked out "pay attention to what, the ride or the people who work it?" But still no movement from the rods and no noises heard in response.
4D Theatre
The group began to assemble around the ouija board and started asking out for any spirits to come forward and to move the glass. After a while the glass began to move around the board.
Question: "Are you mucking about with us?" Answer: "No"
Question: "How old are you?" No reply
Question: "Does Danny or any other guys want to come through and speak with us?" No answer
Question: "Can you spell your name for us?" Answer: "JEN"
As this was a personal message the team moved on. It was identified that this spirit had worked at Loggers Leap, but the message was very unclear. The glass moved to different letters and numbers, but nothing that made any sense.
The Saw
Upon entering the building the team called out for any spirits, but there was no response. Mac tapped on the steel bars asking the spirits to copy, but again no response was heard. Tracie heard a noise, but nothing further was heard after that. After a while it was declared that no activity was forthcoming, so the team ended the vigil.
Outside The Saw Ride
Tracie picked up again on the same group of guys that were at Monks Walk. She was also picking up on a not so very nice vibe - this particular person appeared not to be pleasant and not very sociable. She also felt that someone could have been raped by him or by his group. She then got a name Cedrick. This was someone who was completely different to the others. Tracie walked to where she believed he had been, this was a time before the park existed around 1959. As the group was walking, Tracie said that she could hear screaming.
Loggers Leap
Within this area Tracie said she was feeling very sick, which was a feeling of depression. The group could find no further activity in this area and decided to end the vigil.
TEAM 3 INVESTIGATION
Operations room
Kevin started the night off by saying that at the moment he can’t see anyone, but was picking up on a noise, he felt that it was actively noisy most of the time. He believes that things are moved about a lot and other staff members are blamed for it. The sort of things moved would be photos. He also said that at times when electrical items are turned off , they are often turned back on again and vice versa. The power has been checked but nothings was found to be wrong. Kevin asked the Thorpe Park staff who were present on the vigil, if they felt perhaps that there was someone who comes back to visit them and they did agree.
He then said he was picking up on a male spirit who was in his late 40's. He added that the room was noisy during the day, but come night time when all the staff had gone home, the place was still noisy. Kevin then began to get the name of the male spirit and confirmed that he had worked at the park around 20 years ago. He also said that he could hear people whispering. He then gathered the team around for a séance. It was at this point that a member of the Thorpe Park staff informed the rest of the team that the light in one of the cupboards was on, this light was not on when they first entered the room.
Kevin began to call out to the spirits. He asked them to make a noise, or touch one of them. Again, a member of the Thorpe Park staff said that they felt something on their face. A short time later a noise was heard, and Kevin thought he saw someone standing in the corner, but was not sure if it was possibly a reflection.
The team then moved into an office. They were told by a member of Thorpe Park staff that a female employee had passed away about 7 years ago and this was her office. Kevin then began to feel her presence and described the woman as, not being of small stature and give the initial G, she had too much left to do, but had had enough and was tired of fighting. Her work colleagues were her friends. She would laugh a lot, but knew when to be serious. Kevin then addressed a member of the Thorpe Park staff and said - "that she knew and had felt her around her, the spirit wanted to tell her that she was alright and that there was an afterlife, she is not hurting any more and that time is not the same here".
Kevin then pointed out that this lady did not mince her words, she didn't care who she offended. It was a sad story for everyone, not years and years, very quick - for her very quick.
Jane asked if anyone else could smell a flowery smell like a perfume, or air freshener, a member of Thorpe Park staff said she was always spraying it around the office when she had been there. Kevin said he didn’t know a lot about perfume being a bloke, but he was getting ANA, the ladies in the group confirmed this is a perfume.
She made a big deal about looking good, had a lot of pride in her appearance. The staff would also know about her moving stuff, when she had been alive she would have moved things around, and she still does to wind you up, it’s her way of letting you know she is here. A member of staff said she would have organised staff moves in the office. He informed the Thorpe Park staff that they will continue to sense her around, and she will be there when they need her. She also want them to know that she is not stuck here, she is with family and friends and just likes to come and visit.
Kevin also informed the group that there was man around and he was getting the name Dave or David.
Ladies Toilets
When entering this area Kevin informed the team that he really felt quite ill and sick. He also added that people would hear footsteps in this area. They called out for any spirits to come forward. After a short while Kevin asked the Thorpe Park staff present, if someone had collapsed in here and hit their head. They did confirm that someone had done that.
Education Centre
Kevin called out to the spirits to make themselves known; a noise is heard and he ask for the noise to be repeated. The team then notice a drop in temperature. Jane ask the spirits again to make the noise again and once more the team did hear a noise coming through.
The Saw
The team did not experience any activity in this area. Kevin confirmed that he could not pick up or feel any spirits around and the vigil was concluded.
Loggers Leap
After calling out for any spirits to come forward a faint scream was heard by various team members. Kevin was drawn to go up higher and he also had a feeling of being stuck for a while. He then began to get a name "Tim" a guy who works or had worked on the rides. He also asked if engineers come up to this place and this was confirmed by Thorpe Park staff.

Question: "Can you spell your name?" No answer
Question: "Have you been tellings us fibs?" No answer
Question: "How old are you?" Answer: "36"
Question: "Is that correct?" Answer: "Yes"
Question: "Can you spell your name for us?" No answer
Question: "Is there anyone else there who would like to talk to us?" Answer: "Yes"
Question: "How old are you?" Answer: "45"
Question: "Are you a female?" Answer: "Yes"

Then the glass began to move around the board, Kevin asks for it to go faster - which it does. He then asked the spirit person to stop moving the glass when he says to do so - and it does stop.

Question: "If they have a real message for them then can they spell it out?" Answer: "Yes"
The glass then moved to two letters "N and L" and started to move around the board again. Kevin asked for the glass to move to the word NO, which it does. He thanked them for the response and tries again.
Question: "Do you have a message for us and will you stop mucking about?" Answer: "Yes"
Question: "Do you have a message for someone here?" Answer: "Yes"
Question: "Move the glass towards the person to whom the message is for" It moved to Jen.
Question: "You have a message for Jen, is that correct?" Answer: "Yes"
Question: "Does she know you?" No answer
Question: "What is the first initial of your name?" Answer: "DAV"
They then ended the ouija board session.
Jane said that some of them who had been sat at the back of the theatre whist the Ouija board was being done, heard whispering, and it had become very cold right in the middle of the row. There was also a feeling of being watched.
Kevin sits in one of the seats about half way up, right in the middle. The seat next to Kevin went down on its own, and Kevin put it back up, and asked them to push it back down, nothing happened, but they hoped the next team in would find something.
X No Way Out
As the team enter this area, Kevin says that he can see shadows going back and forth, he feels that something is not quite right, these shadows appear white where normally they would be black. The team investigate to see if there is anything causing this. Kevin then feels as though there is a teenage boy here, aged 13 or 14.
Jane asks is there a radio on, as she can hear voices. Then she hears banging, the team head in the direction of where the sound was heard. They came across something that could have made the sound, but where not able to determine what made the noise. Kevin then says that he can hear voices, like a radio also. It comes in waves and sounds like people laughing, talking and having a good time.
The team can smell sick, but this could be to do with the ride. The Thorpe Park staff did confirm that many people who have ridden this ride have been sick. The marks of this were very evident and hard to get past it. The team hear a clicking noise, as Kevin says he is picking up on a little girl. He asks if there had been an accident with a little girl as he could taste blood.
She wasn’t strapped in properly, Kevin says the taste of blood is strong in his mouth, and is connected to the head of this girl. He says the girl does not understand, Kevin asks her to make contact with him, talk out, and use her voice. Jane calls for the girl to come closer, the team hear a bang, and Jane asks if that was her to do it again, and to come closer, the team again hear a bang.
Kevin says it was not a fault with the ride. He is getting a movement up above them, one of the team said he thought he heard a scream. Jane asks the team to hold a séance. The team notice how cold it becomes around the area of the séance. Kevin says he is getting the initials JF, or FJ. One of the team said they could hear footsteps. Jason sees a light that become bright then went dull. Following this nothing else happened so Kevin closed the circle.
Hells Gate
Several noises were heard by the team and some in response to their question, but overall this area was quiet.
